1993 |
Juha Sulasalmi formed NOMINON in January 1993 together with Peter Nilsson, after their previous band CHORONZON had broke up. To get a complete line-up was difficult so they stayed as a duo. With this line-up they released two demos: Daemon I and II - both in 1993. The music they played back then was a mix of Death Metal and Black Metal, and the demos were spread only in the Swedish underground. During 1993 they also joined a Dark Death/Doom Metal band called DION FORTUNE, but a few months later Peter left D.F. and Nicke Holstenson replaced him. The same year Juha did his military service, so NOMINON took a break. |
1994 | |
1995 | DION FORTUNE broke up in the fall of 1995 and Juha (as the drummer) took up NOMINON again together with Nicke. A few weeks later Jonas Mattsson (guitar), Tobbe Hellman (bass) and Christian Cederborg (guitar) joined the band and the line-up was complete. Tobbe had been playing bass in DION FORTUNE and Jonas brought Christian from their former band XYMONTHRA, which also contained the drummer of CHORONZON. |
1996 |
NOMINON played their debut gig in February 1996 with DISMEMBER, DISSECTION and VERMIN. The same year they released a demo called "My Flesh" but it wasn't spread that well. Christian was kicked out of the band and Juha took over his guitar duties and they got Emil Dragutinovic as their new drummer. (Pic.) Summer of 1996 the band recorded a new demo called "Demo II '96". |
1997 | In 1997 they played a few gigs and in August they recorded a promo tape, simply called "Promo '97". After the recording they kicked out Tobbe and David Svartz replaced him. With this five track opus they established the band's name and got a great recognition in Close-Up magazine, the #1 magazine for extreme music in Sweden. Then almost a year after releasing the promo they got in contact with the Swedish label X-TREME RECORDS who were interested in NOMINON and therefore offered them a contract. |
1998 | In 1998 NOMINON played a couple of gigs in Sweden and also featured on Swedish national TV, in a program called Sefyr. Two months before the recording of their first album Lenny Blade, from the Thrash Metal act INCINERATOR (which also includes Jonas Mattsson on guitar), replaced David who was sacked out from the band. October 1998 NOMINON entered Studio Sunlight to record their debut album "Diabolical Bloodshed". After the recording NOMINON did a mini tour in Germany. |
1999 |
In March 1999 the album was mastered. In April NOMINON played a gig with HAMMERFALL and in June '99 they went to Germany again to support WARHAMMER. "Diabolical Bloodshed" was out on X-TREME RECORDS, 15 of November 1999. |
2000 | They started the new millennium by playing a festival in Motala (SWE) together with bands like MERCILESS, LEFAY and GRAVE DIGGER. |
2001 |
NOMINON is discussing a deal with a major death/grind label. They are also writing material for a new album which is planned to be recorded later this year. In May NOMINON played at the "2 HEAVY 4 YOU"-festival in Falkenberg, Sweden. In September the 20:th Emil decided to quit the band. He was replaced a month later by Perra Karlsson, a 28 year old drummer and a friend in the Swedish metal scene. |
2002 |
In April NOMINON played their debut gig with new drummer; Perra Karlsson in Huskvarna at Balder MC. NOMINON also played the support slot to INSISION on their relaseparty in Stockholm in May. In the summer, NOMINON became a fourpiece as longtime vocalist; Nicke Holstensson was released from his duties due to lack of interest aso. Guitarist Jonas Mattsson now also took over the scene behind the microphone as well. Later in the year NOMINON recorded and produced three tracks in a local studio, for an ep-release for 2003. |
The story of NOMINON continues still. The last chapter of Swedish Death Metal has not yet been written.
